The Regional Court in Burgas ruled that 19-year-old Nikola Burgazliev will remain in custody. Burgazliev is accused of the serious incident in Sunny Beach on August 14 last year, in which the ATV he was driving ran over pedestrians.
A month after the incident, 35-year-old Hristina, who was in a coma, died. Her 4-year-old son Marti survived, but is still recovering.
Classmates and relatives of Burgazliev gathered in front of the court to express their solidarity and demand his release so that he could finish his education. Relatives of the deceased and the injured insisted that Burgazliev remain in custody.
The child's uncle shared that he asks about his mother every day. Marti's aunt stated that they want Burgazliev to remain in custody until the start of the trial.
Burgazliev's defense pointed out that there is no danger of him influencing the process. The prosecution stated that the accused has the right to study while in custody.
