Burgas is among the new members of the international Association "European Cultural Route Cyril and Methodius", a certified cultural route of the Council of Europe. The accession was unanimously approved at a meeting in Aquileia, Italy.

The presentation of Burgas included video materials and a presentation. The Deputy Mayor for Culture expressed gratitude for the opportunity to be part of this prestigious initiative, which is linked to the candidacy for the European Capital of Culture in 2032.

The Burgas Municipal Council approved the accession in February, assessing the benefits for international contacts and the enrichment of the cultural calendar. The benefits were also discussed with the ambassador to Slovakia.

The Association includes universities, museums, and organizations from 10 countries. Along with Burgas, Plovdiv, Ohrid, and the Slovak Museum were accepted. Membership opens up perspectives for research, formative initiatives, and tourism.

According to the Cyril and Methodius Scientific Center at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Burgas covers all five directions for cultural routes.

The Cathedral Temple and the oldest school in Burgas are dedicated to Cyril and Methodius, while the "P. K. Yavorov" library develops the traditions of Glagolitic and Cyrillic. The culmination is the celebrations on May 24th.
