An important step towards the international cultural recognition of Burgas was made today, after all 13 municipalities in the region officially stood behind the city's candidacy for European Capital of Culture 2032.

The mayors signed a memorandum of cooperation, with which they committed to actively participate in the campaign and the preparation of the candidacy. In a sign of unity, they symbolically arranged a puzzle of Burgas region - a gesture that emphasized the common vision for the future of the region.

“The mayors of the municipalities in the region managed to convince their municipal councils on time, who unanimously voted and supported Burgas to appear as a region in the competition for European Capital of Culture. The competition has already started, the announcement has been published,” said the mayor of Burgas Dimitar Nikolov during the ceremony.

The event was also attended by the regional governor Vladimir Krumov, the deputy mayor for culture of Burgas Municipality Diana Savateva, and a unique presenter was Ruska Boyadzhieva, executive director of the “Burgas 2032" Foundation.

The beginning of the ceremony was set with an emotional piano performance by the young musician Alexander Pishmanov from Burgas, which created an artistic atmosphere and set the inspiring tone of the meeting.

By the end of the year, Burgas must submit its full application package, and in 2027 an international jury will assess and decide whether the city and the region meet the criteria to host the prestigious European cultural title.

More initiatives and cultural projects are expected to be announced in the coming months to support the ambitious candidacy of Burgas
