Textbooks and educational aids necessary for organizing the educational process are provided by the caretaker government to students with Bulgarian roots in the Bolgrad Gymnasium "G. S. Rakovski" in the Odessa region.
Students will continue to study Bulgarian language, literature, history, traditions and customs of Bulgarians, and other subjects in the Bulgarian language according to the curriculum. Textbooks and educational aids are also provided. This is part of a new Protocol between the Ministry of Education and Science of Bulgaria and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, which builds upon the protocol signed in 2000.
The document recognizes the important role of the Bolgrad Gymnasium as an institution preserving the national identity and cultural heritage of the Bulgarian minority in Ukraine. The right of Ukrainian citizens belonging to this minority to receive education in their native language is guaranteed.
The Bulgarian side undertakes to conduct courses to improve the qualifications of the teaching staff of the Bolgrad Gymnasium, as well as language courses and practices for students. Qualified teachers of Bulgarian language and literature, history and geography of Bulgaria, Bulgarian folk music, Bulgarian folk dances and other subjects will be able to be seconded.
The protocol is concluded on the basis of an Agreement between the education ministries of the two countries, in force since 1994.
In February of this year, students from the Bolgrad Gymnasium "Georgi Rakovski" in Ukraine were awarded in the All-Ukrainian competition "Bird of the Year - 2025".
