Modernization of the Bulgarian Air Force
The National Assembly ratified an agreement with the French Ministry of Defense for the acquisition of seven new 3D radars. The project aims to increase Bulgaria's capacity for air surveillance and the execution of Air Policing missions.
"The radars we currently have have exceeded their operational life three times over, and their maintenance is almost impossible," commented Defense Minister Dimitar Stoyanov.
What does the deal include?
- Seven GM400α 3D radars with a mobile tactical version.
- Integration of hardware and software into the command and control system.
- Training for operators and technicians in France.
- 5-year maintenance with spare parts and a 1-year warranty.
- IFF certification for Mode 5 operation.
The implementation of the project is of key importance for national sovereignty and compliance with NATO requirements for airspace control above 3,000 meters in altitude.
