The National High-Level Group outlined the extensive horizons of the upcoming Bulgarian presidency of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region, transforming the Danube River into a multi-layered communication corridor beyond geographical dimensions.
Minister Ivan Ivanov emphasized the key role of the coordination mechanism as a strategic tool for effective national representation. He highlighted that the upcoming presidency is an opportunity for large-scale institutional convergence and alignment of visions between different stakeholders.
National Coordinator Vyara Mincheva presented the leading motto of the initiative: "Connected Regions, More Cohesion: A Stronger Danube for All". This slogan concentrates the ambitions to overcome regional challenges through an integrated approach.
The Strategy covers an extremely extensive geographical and demographic scope - over 100 million people, which represents one-fifth of the European Union's population. Bulgaria will take over the presidency for the second time, with a focus on reducing territorial and social inequalities.
Among the main political priorities are enhanced convergence, integration, and recognition of the role of cities as drivers of social progress. Deputy Minister Dora Yankova emphasized institutional unity as a key factor for the initiative's success.
The planned events and activities for 2026 will reflect the current needs of the region, while simultaneously demonstrating Bulgaria's ambition to be a constructive participant in European integration processes.
The National High-Level Group reached consensus on political and thematic priorities, which is seen as a strong sign of institutional commitment and coordination.
Through this large-scale project, Bulgaria aims to affirm its role as an active factor in regional cooperation, while contributing to the further development of the Danube macro-region.
