The Varna Court of Appeal has initiated proceedings on the appeal filed by the defense of Mayor Blagomir Kotsev against his pre-trial detention measure, which will be considered in a closed session, the court's press service announced today.

The District Court in the coastal city overturned Kotsev's detention and set a bail of 200,000 leva. The mayor's defense wants the Court of Appeal to reconsider the amount of the bail and impose a signature bond, or to completely revoke the imposition of a pre-trial detention measure.

In cases where a ruling in a general nature case pending before the District Court is appealed, the Court of Appeal considers the proceedings and renders a decision in a closed session, without the participation and immediate hearing of the parties. The deadline for deciding the case is seven days. A judge-rapporteur has already been appointed through the case random allocation system.
