The Bulgarian branch of the international human rights organization "Amnesty International" has launched an ambitious national tour aimed at familiarizing the public with its activities and attracting new supporters. The initiative began in Burgas and will cover several major cities in the country over the coming months.
The tour is part of the organization's strategy to expand its presence in Bulgaria after officially opening an office in the country last September. The main goal is to promote the work of "Amnesty International" in the field of human rights and to motivate more people to get involved as volunteers, activists, or members.
Details of the Initiative
In an exclusive interview with BTA, Evgenia Bernstein, "Campaigns and Activism" coordinator at the Bulgarian branch of "Amnesty International", revealed details about the initiative.
Through these meetings, we want to tell people what the organization does worldwide, what campaigns and plans for future ones are in Bulgaria, and most importantly, to emphasize the ways in which people can get involved in them
She emphasized that there are two main ways to participate - people can either seek out the organization themselves or create a local community and become its coordinators.
Focus on Youth
Particular emphasis is placed on attracting young people. Bernstein shared: "In addition to local communities, we really want to establish student clubs. In America, there are Amnesty student clubs, and in prestigious universities around the world, there are dozens. I hope universities in Bulgaria will support such initiatives and motivate students to be active".
Financial Independence
An important aspect of "Amnesty International's" philosophy is its financial independence. The organization is supported exclusively by individual donations, refusing funds from governments or corporations.
Tour Schedule
The national tour will continue over the coming months, with upcoming meetings planned for:
- August 12 in Sliven
- August 14 in Varna
- August 18 in Plovdiv
- September and October - Ruse and Veliko Tarnovo
A date for a meeting in Stara Zagora is expected to be announced soon.
