Bulgarian pension fund assets reach €17.254 billion

As of the end of June, assets of pension funds in Bulgaria show a 16.8% year-on-year growth, according to the latest data published by the BNB.

By the end of June, the total assets of pension funds in Bulgaria reached 17.254 billion euros. According to official data from the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB), published on the central bank's website, this figure marks a significant increase of 2.480 billion euros, or 16.8 percent year-on-year, compared to the 14.774 billion euros reported at the end of June 2025. At the same time, compared to the close of the first quarter of this year, when assets amounted to 16.091 billion euros, there was an increase of 1.162 billion euros, corresponding to 7.2 percent.

Debt securities dominate the portfolio structure, rising by 629.3 million euros (6.7 percent) year-on-year to reach 9.989 billion euros. Their relative share in the total volume of assets at the end of June was 57.9 percent, a change from the 63.4 percent reported during the same quarter of 2025. Pension rights are the predominant element in the liabilities of pension funds, with a value amounting to 17.176 billion euros. This indicator shows a year-on-year growth of 2.469 billion euros (16.8 percent) compared to 14.707 billion euros in June 2025, as well as an increase of 1.153 billion euros (7.2 percent) compared to the end of the first quarter of 2026, when they were 16.023 billion euros. Their relative share in total liabilities is 99.5 percent, remaining unchanged from the end of the second quarter of 2025.
