Police in Burgas have detained a 48-year-old BMW 435D driver after a drug test came back positive for cocaine, Burgas regional police said.
Officers from the Fourth District Police Department stopped the car on 19 October at about 3pm. The check took place in the Meden Rudnik neighbourhood, directly opposite block 15.
The BMW has foreign number plates. The man lives in Burgas. Officers confirmed his identity on the spot and tested him for drugs there.
After the positive result, the driver was taken to the police station and held for up to 24 hours. Fast-track proceedings have begun in the case.
The police report does not say why the car was stopped or whether the driver showed signs of odd behaviour. Police also did not say whether the man gave a blood or urine sample for lab analysis, or whether he has been charged.
Investigators will look into the circumstances of the driving and gather evidence.
Similar cases have come up in earlier checks in Burgas's largest residential district. In August, officers from the Fourth District Police Department detained a 54-year-old driver whose test showed three types of drugs: cannabis, amphetamine and methamphetamine. A search of his car then turned up about two grams of cannabis. Fast-track proceedings were opened in that case too.
Just a day before this case, police reported two other drivers detained in separate checks in Burgas and the Primorsko area. One driver's first test reacted to cocaine, the other's to methamphetamine.
