The Turkish-registered car reached the crossing on 19 October at about 12:30pm. A Bulgarian man was driving alone. He told officers he had nothing to declare.
A risk analysis flagged the car for a full search. Two black plastic bags full of 200 and 100 lira banknotes lay on the front seat next to the driver. He was given a penalty notice under the Currency Act.
