In the last 24 hours, two people have died and another 36 were injured in a total of 22 serious road accidents in the country, the Ministry of Internal Affairs announced. The summary, published on the official website of the ministry, outlines a worrying picture of road safety in the state.

Additional analysis of the statistical data shows that besides the serious incidents, numerous minor accidents were also registered, which also contribute to the chaos on the roads. In the capital city of Sofia alone, law enforcement officials responded to 21 road incidents. One of them was classified as serious, injuring one person, while the remaining 20 were minor accidents.

Road Safety in the Summer

The road safety situation during the summer season appears to be particularly tense. From the beginning of August until now, statistics have registered 710 road incidents, which have led to the deaths of 47 people. In addition, over nine hundred people have been injured, with their exact number being 943. These figures highlight the risks that road users face during this period.

Looking at the longer-term statistics, data from the beginning of the year reveal the scale of the problem. So far in 2025, 4496 road accidents have been registered. As a result, 283 people have lost their lives, and 5670 have sustained injuries.

Despite the seriousness of the data for the current year, the Ministry of Internal Affairs also notes one positive trend. When compared to the same period of the previous year, 2024, there are 14 fewer road fatalities. This decrease, although small against the total number of victims, may be an indication of positive changes or a result of preventive measures, but the alarming number of incidents remains a major cause for concern among the public and institutions.
