The parliamentary foreign policy committee unanimously adopted a draft resolution declaring February 14th as the Day of Bulgarian-Polish Friendship and Cooperation. The draft resolution was submitted by MPs from the Bulgaria-Poland Friendship Group. The date was chosen because on February 14th the Bulgarian Orthodox Church celebrates the Dormition of St. Cyril the Philosopher, and Pope John Paul II declared Saints Cyril and Methodius co-patrons of Europe.

The initiative is from Presidents Rumen Radev and Andrzej Duda, presented during the official visit of the Polish President to Sofia in May 2025. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) also expressed a positive opinion on the draft resolution.
