The Ministry of Healthcare presented the final results of a large-scale national project to support outpatient medical care, which covered 47 medical facilities and 6 transfusion hematology centers.

At an official ceremony at the Ministry of Healthcare, the key achievements of a large-scale infrastructure project aimed at strengthening the medical sector during an epidemic crisis were presented. The event was held on 27.06.2025 and covered the implementation period from 23.05.2022 to 30.06.2025.

The lead expert of the forum was Assoc. Prof. Mariana Vasileva – project manager and key employee in the "Project, Program and Strategy Implementation" directorate. Among those present were representatives of diagnostic and consultative centers, medical experts, specialists from the National Center for Transfusion Hematology, and journalists.

The main goal of the project was related to improving the capacity of the outpatient medical system for diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of patients with infectious diseases, including coronavirus infection and post-COVID syndrome.

During the implementation, a total of 47 medical facilities were modernized through a large-scale delivery of specialized medical equipment. Specific investments included: 47 portable X-ray machines of the "Kugel" type, 62 ECG machines with 6/12 channels, 47 aspirators, 51 sterilization autoclaves, 59 automatic hematology analyzers, 47 transport respirators for emergency assistance, and 47 portable ultrasound devices.

In parallel, six transfusion hematology centers were supported – the National Center in Sofia and regional centers in Varna, Plovdiv, Stara Zagora, and Pleven. These structures were provided with specialized equipment for donor diagnostics, including automated systems for immunological studies and antibody analysis.

A key focus of the project was the conduct of specialized training for medical specialists who will work with the new equipment. A total of 1,079 telemedicine monitoring systems were installed, which further improved the quality of medical service.

The ultimate goal of the intervention was to create a more sustainable and flexible healthcare system capable of meeting future epidemic challenges. The project was funded under the Operational Program "Regions in Growth" 2014-2020 and represents a significant investment in national health infrastructure.

The leadership of the Ministry of Healthcare expressed special thanks to the team of the Managing Authority in the Ministry of Regional Development for their support in implementing this large-scale health project.
