The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, stated that his country is ready for high-level meetings on peaceful negotiations, both in a bilateral and trilateral format. He pointed out that Kyiv is not against participation in a meeting in the "Trump-Putin-Zelenskyy" format, as the Ukrainian, American, and Russian sides have been informed of this readiness.
"We are ready for the 'Trump-Putin-me' format, and we are ready for the 'Trump-Putin', 'Trump-Zelenskyy' format, and then the three of us together. I mean a simultaneous meeting, not scattered meetings," Zelenskyy said.
The Ukrainian leader gave the example of the meetings in Saudi Arabia, where the Americans had spoken separately with the Ukrainian and Russian sides, even though everything was happening in the same space. According to him, the only thing missing then was a direct dialogue between Kyiv and Moscow, which subsequently took place in Istanbul.
Zelenskyy stressed that Ukraine is also ready for technical meetings in the Vatican, Switzerland, or elsewhere where it is proposed. Furthermore, he does not rule out a direct meeting at the leadership level, without prior preparation: "If our decision can be discussed immediately, without technical meetings - we are ready."
The President explained that the format of the meetings depends on the topics: for the discussion of a ceasefire, he said, a trilateral meeting with the participation of the United States, who can act as an observer, is appropriate. And in the case of negotiations on security guarantees, Zelenskyy considers the participation of European countries important.
Zelenskyy also said that issues related to Ukraine's membership in the EU should not be discussed with Russia: "This certainly does not depend on the Russians. This depends on the EU. And I want to discuss it with them."
We recall that on May 16, for the first time in several years, direct negotiations between representatives of Ukraine and Russia took place in Turkey. Immediately afterwards, Putin stated that the Russian Federation is ready to work with Ukraine on a memorandum regarding a possible future peace treaty.
