Yesterday, music was heard here, under which the students from the 11th grade danced a waltz. Today, however, Lyceum No. 1 in Belgorod-Dnistrovsky is filled with fear, despair and hatred - towards the damned neighbors who, in broad daylight, fired two "Iskander" missiles at the school. The enemy shelling took the lives of two people, and over ten others, including two teenagers, suffered various injuries.
United by the common tragedy, the residents of Akkerman were clearing the ruins of the school together with the rescuers. The correspondent of "Bessarabia Inform" was also at the scene. Around 2:30 pm, the residents of Belgorod-Dnistrovsky were horrified by two powerful explosions. Soon it became known - the target of the enemy was the city lyceum number one.
According to Victoria Zhuravskaya, the press officer of the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service in the Odesa region, all departments of Belgorod-Dnistrovsky and the district were engaged in firefighting and emergency rescue operations. At the moment, two dead and 14 injured are known. Rescuers continue to search for possible survivors under the rubble.
The general director of the multidisciplinary hospital in Belgorod-Dnistrovsky, Vitaly Zhnyakin, reported that one of the victims was teacher Aurika M., brought in a state of clinical death, and the second victim was the head of the institution's warehouse. The remaining 12 injured have been hospitalized, with the most serious condition being that of the woman-assistant cook.
Many citizens gathered at the scene of the tragedy, who together with the rescuers and utility workers helped to clear the ruins of the lyceum. Acting mayor Aleksandr Skalozub reported that employees of all municipal enterprises in the city are involved in the elimination of the consequences.
The head of the Department of Education and Science of the Odesa region, Aleksandr Lonchak, reacted to the enemy shelling, noting that this is "another proof that the war destroys not only buildings, but also hearts, the work of a lifetime, the faith in a peaceful tomorrow." He announced that the issue of organizing education at the institution from September 1 will be considered urgently.
According to local historian Alexey Perminov, the construction of the lyceum building began in 1957 and it was the largest four-story building in the city at the time. During the construction, many ancient artifacts were found, which were added to the collection of the local history museum.
In addition to the buildings of the educational institution and private homes, the premises of the Red Cross, where volunteers stored things and materials for those in need, were also damaged. Fortunately, there were no people in the warehouse during the shelling.
Unfortunately, the number of victims of the Russian attack on the Belgorod-Dnistrovsky Lyceum has increased. The head of the Odesa Regional Administration, Oleg Kiper, reported that a 60-year-old employee of the school canteen died in the hospital from the injuries received.
