A dramatic incident shook the tranquility of Bulgaria Boulevard in Asenovgrad, when two fragile long-eared owls (Asio otus) were spotted in a critical situation amid heavy traffic. Local administration employees immediately took action to prevent a potential tragedy, temporarily taking care of the defenseless feathered creatures.
Environmental experts from RIOSV - Plovdiv took coordination of transporting the young birds to the Wildlife Rescue Center in Stara Zagora. This case is part of a series of over 100 reported incidents during the current nesting period, which highlight the challenges facing wildlife in an urban environment.
Specialists emphasize that such situations are extremely common during spring and summer. Young birds like owls, swifts, kestrels, and woodpeckers often leave their nests in the process of learning to stand, which puts them in a vulnerable position.
It is important for citizens to know the rules of action in such encounters. Experts strongly recommend initial observation from a distance, as parents are usually nearby and continue to care for their offspring.
If a real danger is identified, it is recommended to carefully move the bird to a safer place - such as tree branches or a nearby fence. In case of suspicion of injury or serious risk, the environmental inspection must be notified immediately.
The management of RIOSV - Plovdiv expressed special thanks to citizens who show active concern for wild animals. Joint efforts between institutions and the public are emerging as a key factor in preserving natural wealth.
