The Minister of e-Government promises national digital identification in ID cards

Minister Valentin Mundrov stated that within 10 years, Bulgaria will introduce national digital identification in ID cards. This is part of the broader digital transformation that the Ministry of e-Government is carrying out, aimed at modernizing the administration, improving public services, and more efficient resource management.

The Minister of e-Government, Valentin Mundrov, announced that a national digital identification in ID cards will soon be introduced in Bulgaria. This is a long-awaited process that will be realized after 10 years of waiting. According to Mundrov, digital identification is a key part of the overall digital transformation that the ministry is carrying out.

The Minister stated that his main goal is to make the entire document workflow in the administration fully electronic. This has already been achieved in the Ministry of e-Government, and Mundrov expects the same to happen in other ministries by the end of the year.

According to Mundrov, digitalization is a key driver of the green transition and sustainable economic development. "In the context of accelerated technological development, digital transformation is the path to modernizing the administration, improving public services and more efficient resource management," the Minister added.

Mundrov outlined the main mission of the Ministry of e-Government to create a secure and efficient infrastructure, as well as citizen and business-oriented policies. He emphasized the digital architecture that the ministry is developing for the state administration, including a unified model for 24-hour electronic service requests, automatic data exchange between institutions, a national interoperability framework, integrated architectural solutions and cloud infrastructure, and a model for electronic identification and authentication.

Minister Mundrov outlined the key directions in which the Ministry of e-Government is working, including the creation of digital infrastructures that allow industries and the public sector to introduce technologies such as artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things, facilitating access to data and participation in the construction of European data spaces, integration with private business processes, and cooperation with innovative ecosystems.
