Deputy Minister of Economy Doncho Barbalov opened a working meeting, organized jointly with the Bulgarian Association of Electrical Engineering and Electronics (BASEEL), to present the main priorities in support of industry and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Bulgaria.
Barbalov announced that the Ministry of Economy and Industry is actively working on the development of the National Industrial Strategy with a horizon until 2030. The goal of the strategy is the transformation of the processing and extractive industries through the introduction of low-carbon and resource-efficient technologies, strengthening of critical raw material supply chains, and the creation of suitable industrial infrastructure. The project is being implemented with the support of the European Commission through the Technical Support Instrument.
During the discussion with BASEEL representatives, upcoming changes in European public procurement legislation were also discussed, including the possibility of introducing requirements for the use of European equipment.
The Deputy Minister emphasized that the digitalization of SMEs is one of the six priorities of the National Strategy for Small and Medium Enterprises. Targeted investments in digital transformation stimulate innovation and create conditions for sustainable economic transformation. The Ministry is implementing a number of specific measures, including support for the implementation of information and communication technologies, training for digital and management skills, as well as new tools for equity financing of startups and risky projects in the field of digitalization.
Barbalov also stressed the role of the Commercial and Economic Affairs Services (STIV) at the Ministry in supporting Bulgarian businesses abroad. STIV provide valuable information on foreign markets, business partners, and investment opportunities. The Ministry is working to strengthen the network of services and increase their effectiveness for the benefit of businesses.
The Bulgarian Association of Electrical Engineering and Electronics (BASEEL) was established 30 years ago and represents 115 Bulgarian and international companies, organizations, and institutions. The electrical and electronic sector in Bulgaria covers around 1,300 companies, employing over 57,000 people and generating an annual turnover of 5.5 billion euros.
