In a landmark event commemorating the 80th anniversary of the UN Charter, Bulgarian Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev held a large-scale meeting with youth organizations and students at the country's alma mater – Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski".
The key highlights of the forum were related to the historical significance of the international organization and its role in maintaining global peace. The minister emphasized Bulgaria's seventy-year active membership in the UN, outlining the country's consistent position on international law and human rights.
In the context of contemporary geopolitical challenges, key issues regarding the reform of international institutions were discussed. Special focus was placed on the "UN80" initiative, which aims to modernize existing mechanisms for dealing with crisis situations in various parts of the world.
Among the specific initiatives presented by the diplomatic leadership were the "Bulgarian Youth Delegates to the UN" program, diplomatic negotiation training simulations, and a national student essay contest. The most attractive opportunity was presented as the winner becoming part of the Bulgarian delegation during the 80th General Assembly session in New York in the autumn of 2025.
On July 23, 2025, Bulgaria will present its Second Voluntary National Review on progress towards Sustainable Development Goals, innovatively including a special section developed by young experts. This approach demonstrates the understanding that youth are not just future, but current active participants in the global dialogue.
In an emotional finale, Minister Georgiev emphasized: "The future belongs to those who act. Support for the young is our commitment and investment in tomorrow's day". This position was met with enthusiasm by the attending students and youth leaders.
