Mayor Dimitar Nikolov and Ambassador Dong-be Kim outlined perspectives for deepening bilateral cooperation in the field of education, scientific research, and cultural exchange between Burgas and the Republic of Korea.

A diplomatic meeting with potential for large-scale international partnerships was held in the Burgas administration, where strategic opportunities for expanding interaction between the two countries were discussed.

A key focus of the talks was expanding the linguistic and cultural presence of the Korean community in local educational institutions. Plans include a significant increase in the number of schools offering Korean language learning, as well as introducing academic exchange programs with leading universities from South Korea.

The potential for technological cooperation particularly sparked interest. Korean partners expressed readiness to support the establishment of modern laboratories and high-tech research spaces in Burgas educational institutions.

Mayor Nikolov presented an ambitious concept for a multidisciplinary student campus that will unite the efforts of five higher education institutions. The project aims to create a platform for joint international projects, innovative developments, and scientific research.

Ambassador Dong-be Kim emphasized the importance of the sister city Ulsan – a modern industrial and technological center that can serve as a successful model for future cooperation.

In the cultural aspect, opportunities for large-scale artistic events involving South Korean performers were discussed, which would contribute to Burgas's candidacy for European Capital of Culture in 2032.

Additional interest was sparked by the topic of promoting taekwondo as an extracurricular activity, which responds to the growing interest among Burgas students in Korean martial arts.

The meeting reinforced the impression of traditionally warm and promising relations between the two countries, outlining specific steps for future multilateral cooperation.
