Berkovitsa is the host of a national road safety competition for students.

The national road safety competition for students between grades 5 and 7 was held in Berkovitsa, with teams from 23 schools in the country participating. Each team consisted of four students and competed in a written and practical test. The winning team was from the II Primary School "Hristo Smirnenski" - Berkovitsa, which scored a total of 106 points. Second place went to the Secondary School "Panayot Volov" from the town of Byala, Ruse region, and third place went to the team of the Secondary School "Nikola Yonkov Vaptsarov" from Botevgrad.

Deputy Minister of Education and Science Tanya Mihaylova, who attended the opening of the competition, emphasized that this is one of the most practically oriented competitions on the Ministry's calendar, in order to prepare children to be responsible participants in road traffic. She congratulated the young participants and called on them to be calm, self-confident and to follow the rules, showing tolerance on the road, at school and in society.

The competition is gaining more and more popularity with each passing year, and this year in the practical test of the national rounds, all competitors participate, passing through the competition track. The national round for the second competition group (grades VIII - X) will be held on June 20 - 22, 2025 in the city of Vratsa.

The competition was attended by the head of the Regional Inspectorate of Education - Montana Trayka Traykova, as well as the mayor of Berkovitsa Radoslav Naydenov, who presented awards to all participants.
