As part of a large-scale information initiative, a modern approach to preserving and developing traditional Bulgarian crafts was presented. A key moment in the event was the presentation of the new European registration mechanism for geographical indications, which provides expanded protection for craft products.
Deputy Minister Nevena Lazarova emphasized the strategic importance of crafts as a dynamic economic sector with potential for regional development. According to her, the modern economic environment requires an integrated approach that simultaneously preserves cultural heritage and stimulates entrepreneurship in small settlements.
During the conference, jointly organized by the Patent Office, the European Commission, and the Intellectual Property Office, specific mechanisms for supporting local production were outlined. Special emphasis was placed on opportunities for innovation in the craft sector and the creation of new jobs.
Within the forum, Deputy Minister Lazarova held working meetings with high-ranking European experts, including Edita Demby-Sivek from the EU Intellectual Property Office and Eng. Olya Dimitrova, chairperson of the Bulgarian Patent Office.
A key message of the event was the commitment to building a stable framework that will guarantee the recognition and protection of Bulgarian craft products at the European level. The Ministry is taking a clear course towards supporting authentic production through modern regulatory instruments.
The initiative is being implemented in the context of the EU Capital Tour and represents an important step towards the integration of Bulgarian traditional productions into the pan-European economic space.
