The death toll from the Russian air strike on Komyshuvakha in Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia region has risen to 50, Ukraine's State Emergency Service (DSNS) said on Friday, 6 November. Rescuers pulled the bodies of eight more people from the rubble. The earlier toll was 37.

Russian forces hit the village in Zaporizhzhia district with a series of air strikes on Monday, 2 November. The first DSNS report spoke of 26 dead and five injured.

How it all started: Russian air strikes on school housing aid kill 26 in Komyshuvakha

The strikes hit a school building where aid was handed out every week to people who had stayed in Komyshuvakha. The dead include two rescuers and four police officers, but those figures date from before the latest rise.

President Volodymyr Zelensky said most of the victims were civilians who had come for aid, and people who rushed to help them after the first strike.

Rescuers are working in harsh conditions, with a constant risk of new Russian strikes.
