An expert team of representatives from various institutions held a working meeting to analyze the transport situation in the Kresna area. Led by Minister Ivan Ivanov, the participants discussed specific strategies for dealing with the intensive traffic, which reaches critical levels during the summer tourist season.
Technical analyses show serious limitations in the capacity of the existing route. Currently, the road can handle only 800 vehicles per hour, while peak loads during the summer reach an impressive 1,600 vehicles within one hour.
Among the proposed short-term solutions is the introduction of a temporary traffic light system that will prioritize movement and limit left turns. The goal is to maximize traffic relief, especially in sections related to merging onto the highway after the populated area.
Experts plan precise daily monitoring of the applied measures, emphasizing their temporary nature - limited solely to the summer tourist season. In parallel, they are also exploring the possibility of building an additional third lane to support more efficient movement.
