On March 20th, the spring equinox arrives - the moment when day and night are almost equal, and nature symbolically transitions from winter to spring. This is a time for balance, new intentions and small rituals for good luck.

On March 20th in the Northern Hemisphere, the spring equinox arrives – the astronomical moment when the Sun crosses the celestial equator and day and night are almost equal in duration. This is the boundary between winter and spring, but also a symbol of balance, new beginnings and organizing the inner world. In many cultures, this day is accepted as a natural time for "resetting" - to leave the heavy behind us and welcome the brighter season.

"What is the equinox really"

The word comes from the Latin "aequinoctium" – a combination of "aequus" ("equal") and "nox" ("night"). That is why on this day we talk about the balance between light and darkness. Astronomically, the equinox occurs when the Earth's axis is not tilted towards or away from the Sun, so that the two hemispheres receive almost the same amount of light. For many people, this is also the first truly spring sign that longer and warmer days are already on the horizon.

Although the calendar already says spring, nature does not change seasons with a single click. The time around the equinox is often variable - sometimes sunny and mild, sometimes with clouds, wind and short cooling. It is precisely this transience that makes the day special: it is both calm and dynamic, like a short breath between two seasons.

"Folk signs and beliefs"

Around the spring equinox in various folk traditions, signs related to the coming of the new season appear. Some look to see if there will be sun in the morning, others - whether the wind will be soft, and others follow the first birds and flowering plants. It is believed that what the weather is like on this day, so can be the mood of spring – if it is clear, the year will go more easily; if it is cold and gloomy, the season will require more patience.

Symbols of fertility and rebirth are also often associated with the equinox - eggs, flowers, rabbits, seeds, green shoots. They remind us that the world is emerging from its winter stagnation. In some traditions, the day is used for "cleansing" actions at home: tidying up, opening the windows, throwing away the unnecessary, so that the new energy "enters".

"How to spend the day"

The best way to welcome the spring equinox is not to rush and not to overload the day. It's a good idea to start with a short walk, especially outdoors, where you can feel the first softer spring breeze. Many people choose to spend more time in nature, plant a flower, clean their home or just sort out their thoughts.

If the day is suitable for a new beginning, it is also ideal for small promises to yourself. Not necessarily big decisions, but quieter intentions: more movement, less stress, more light in everyday life. The equinox reminds us that balance is a process, not a one-time act.

In a spiritual sense, this is an appropriate moment for rituals related to gratitude and balance. Some light a candle, others record goals, others simply give themselves silence. The general idea is one – to tune in to spring not only in the calendar, but also internally. And if there is a day in which to believe that light comes after winter, this is it.

"The meaning of the new season"

The spring equinox is not only an astronomical event, but also a psychological sign. It reminds us that after every dark phase comes a brighter one, after stagnation - growth. In this sense, the day is a good opportunity to give ourselves time, calm down and start thinking about the next months with more clarity.

Whether we celebrate it with a walk, a small home ritual or just with a thought for a new beginning, March 20th brings one simple idea: life always moves between two extremes, and the most important thing is to find its middle ground. This is where the beauty of the spring equinox lies – in the balance between light and darkness, between end and beginning.
