In an interview for the BBC, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria, Georgi Georgiev, emphasized that with the adoption of the euro, our country confirms its clear pro-European orientation and reaches the highest level of economic and political integration with the leading member states of the European Union. According to him, this bold step will strengthen confidence in Bulgarian institutions and position our country as an integral part of the decision-making core in the EU, surpassing the image of a peripheral state.

Georgiev was adamant that over 60% of Bulgarians are pro-European, but expressed concerns about attempts to misinform and manipulate public opinion. However, he hopes that a rapid and adequate information campaign will dispel these doubts and convince Bulgarians that membership in the Eurozone is beneficial for the country. The next key step will be on January 1, 2026, when Bulgaria will officially introduce the euro, after a transition period until the end of January.
