Dialogue with the international human rights community
Ombudsman Velislava Delcheva held a strategic meeting with representatives of the diplomatic missions of the EU, the UK, the USA, and Switzerland. A key focus of the discussions was the successful re-accreditation of the institution with "A" status under the UN Paris Principles, which confirms compliance with the highest international standards.
Delcheva emphasized that the independence of the institution is fundamental and it should not be involved in functions that jeopardize public trust.
Challenges facing the institution
- Financial sustainability: The limited budget calls into question the attraction of experts in areas such as artificial intelligence and international law.
- Independence: A need for additional guarantees against external pressure and budget cuts.
A record year for citizens' rights
In 2025, the institution marked a historic success with over 100,000 citizens receiving assistance. The main topics on the agenda remain:
- Reform in juvenile justice.
- Protection against domestic violence.
- The rights of people with mental health illnesses.
