Road Safety Training for 10,000 Students

Nearly 10,000 students from first to fourth grade underwent training on basic road safety rules. This was made clear from a statement by Commissioner Maria Boteva, Deputy Head of the "Traffic Police" Department at the General Directorate "National Police".

She attended the final event of the educational campaign for children's road safety "I Cross Safely with TEDI" at the 118th SOUE "Acad. Lyudmil Stoyanov" in the capital. The campaign, organized for the sixth consecutive year, is held jointly by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Interior and Tymbark Bulgaria.

Since the beginning of the school year, thousands of children across the country have been trained to observe traffic rules, with the campaign focusing on the most important aspects of road safety. This year, the initiative covered schools in Sofia, Varna, Plovdiv, Stara Zagora, Veliko Tarnovo and Burgas, where practical lessons were held with experts.

Today, in the capital, the final event was held in the school hall of the 118th SU "Acad. Lyudmil Stoyanov". Representatives of the General Directorate "National Police" held an open lesson for first graders. Four classes of children were introduced to the basic rules for safe crossing and behavior on the road.

The atmosphere in the hall was filled with enthusiasm. The children, gathered around the improvised road section, carefully followed the instructions.

"During the campaign, these 10,000 children managed to get closer to the traffic rules in an attractive way. We provoke the children to follow the rules by seeing a favorite hero - a bear. This hero "came to life" in front of them. He does things wrong, because the idea is through his wrong behavior to provoke the children and they point out where he is wrong, crossing the roadway", explained Commissioner Boteva. She stressed that in addition to the favorite hero, traffic police officers, as well as parents, participated in the lessons.

The trainings, held from October 2nd to today, took place in schoolyards or gymnasiums. Special markings were used to create "conditions close to the real ones", according to Commissioner Maria Boteva.

The lessons are structured to be short and effective. The focus is on a small number of, but important, rules. Children have the opportunity to reinforce their knowledge on the same day through a practical exercise, which lasts between 30 and 40 minutes.
