Ancient giants arrive in Burgas

In a few days, Burgas will become home to two ancient olive trees that have survived centuries, empires, and entire eras. One is approximately 2,800 years old, and the other is about 2,100 years old.

They are living witnesses to a history that began long before the modern world took its current shape.

When the first olive tree was already taking root, Rome was not yet an empire. These trees have seen the rise and fall of entire civilizations.

Technical parameters of the trees:

  • Age: 2,800 and 2,100 years
  • Height: 4.60 meters and 4.20 meters
  • Root system: 3.5-meter diameter
  • Weight: between 4 and 6 tons each

Complex logistics operation

Transporting them is a real challenge. Specialized equipment is being used, and the trailers are only 23 cm off the ground. Along the route, traffic lights have to be temporarily dismantled so that the ancient "passengers" can pass safely.

A new look for Burgas

Upon arrival, the olive trees will be positioned at the HashTag Pavilion near the Bridge. This is part of the Municipality of Burgas' strategy to give the city a Mediterranean look, combining the modern environment with ancient history.
