Scientists from the Institute of Electrochemistry and Energy Systems at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences announced a breakthrough in the creation of nanocapsules that are activated in the acidic environment characteristic of malignant tissues. Laboratory tests on cell cultures have shown that this system can release the chemotherapeutic agent with over 80% efficiency.
The project is part of the national scientific program "BioActive" and is funded by the Ministry of Education and Science. The results of the development were presented at the "Nanomedicine 2025" conference held in Sofia. Pre-clinical trials on animals are expected to begin in the fall.
