The extended budget does not pose an obstacle to Bulgaria's entry into the Eurozone, said the chair of the Economic and Social Council (ESC) Zornitsa Rusinova on BNT.

Rusinova noted that there is experience working with an extended budget during political crises and early elections. She explained that the schedule for a regular budget depends on the date of the early elections and the formation of a regular cabinet, which is related to the benefits of Eurozone membership, including economic and income policies that are important to Bulgarian citizens.

Regarding the minimum wage and other key parameters, Rusinova emphasized that joining the Eurozone does not require the renegotiation of contracts, including those for employment relationships and loans. She reminded that accounts are already in euros.

Rusinova assured that there are sufficient control mechanisms to guarantee financial stability in the Eurozone despite political instability. She pointed to the Euro Law and an additional coordination mechanism between institutions, which signals stability. Rusinova urged citizens to report irregularities.

Bulgaria officially adopted the euro and is now the 21st member of the Eurozone. The lev will be an equivalent means of payment until the end of January, and from February 1st, the euro becomes the only currency. Until August 8, 2026, prices will be dual-labeled in euros and leva.

In January, citizens can pay in leva and euros, and merchants will give change in euros.
