Burgas publisher Znaci will bring out unpublished prose and dramatic texts by Hristo Fotev next year. It is also preparing an album about the ballerina Lyuba Kolchakova for 2027. Znaci founder Rumyana Emanuilidu announced the plans at an evening for the publisher's 20th anniversary at the State Puppet Theatre in Burgas.
The event was called "The Books That Bring Us Together".
What happened before: Yeats' "The Stolen Child" to appear in Bulgarian for first time
The team found Fotev's texts in archive documents while working on the literary heritage of Burgas.
The poet also wrote the first book in a new series, "Famous Authors Write for Children", which collects works by established Bulgarian writers. "Sea Horse" was written in 1986 and found in the State Archive in Burgas. It gave the team the idea for the whole series, and it has already been printed.
The new titles also include the poem "The Stolen Child" by the Irish poet William Butler Yeats. Zhivka Ivanova translated it, and writer and translator Christopher Buxton was the consultant. The first copies arrived just in time for the anniversary evening.
The Kolchakova album will come out to mark 100 years since her birth. It will include photos and memories that Emanuilidu has been collecting for years. Some come from her meeting with the ballerina's sister in Bologna about ten years ago. Znaci will look for partners among cultural institutions to help with the album.
Another future project is a film based on Emanuilidu's book "Theatre AB". The book tells the story of the theatre group and the work of director Yulia Ognyanova. Several films have already been made from it. This year Vladimir Lyutskanov and Antoneta Bachurova made "The Sisyphuses".
A 12-minute extract from the film was prepared for the evening. It had footage of Vili Tsankov, the voice of Leon Daniel and theatre music by composer Kiril Donchev. Georgi Dyulgerov and Rusi Chanev appear in the last scenes, which the audience watched at the end of the evening. Director Dyulgerov also made a film that is largely based on the book.
A film based on Emanuilidu's book about the composer Georgi Shagunov is also in the works. It is expected to be ready in 2027. Emanuilidu said she hopes the house where Shagunov lived and worked will be restored and become a cultural centre for Burgas.
The evening also presented a new issue of the magazine "Izgrev", dedicated to Znaci's 20th anniversary. It has photos from Burgas book fairs and festivals from 2011 to 2026, as well as texts about authors and other people in the city's cultural life.
The publisher is also continuing its "Literary Detective" project with pupils from the Lyuben Karavelov school. The children research places, people and events in the literary history of Burgas. The aim is to make the project a tradition and to get pupils more interested in reading and creative writing.
