"The Winter Egg" by Fabergé, considered one of the most beautiful creations of the legendary jeweler to Imperial Russia, was sold for a record 22.9 million pounds (51 million leva) at auction. This was announced by Christie's.
The auction house indicated that the egg changed hands for 22,895,000 pounds. This has broken the world record for a Fabergé piece sold at auction.
The sum significantly exceeds the previous record – 8.9 million pounds, paid for "The Rothschild Egg", sold by Christie's in 2007.
