Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov welcomed the deepening of trade and economic relations with Hungary, the government press service announced. The meeting with President Tamás Sulyok marks another stage in the development of bilateral relations, characterized by historical ties and traditions.

In the hall where the meeting took place, there was an atmosphere of diplomacy and mutual respect. Across the table, the two leaders seemed serious and focused on the upcoming discussions.

"Bulgaria and Hungary are developing excellent friendly relations, based on deep historical ties and traditions. It is in our common interest to deepen bilateral economic cooperation, including in strategic areas such as investments, transport, innovation and high technologies," Zhelyazkov said, quoted by the press service. He emphasized the importance of using the opportunities offered by the single European market.

Within the framework of the meeting, the topic of the introduction of the euro in Bulgaria was also discussed. The Prime Minister focused on the long-term benefits for the economy.

In addition, Zhelyazkov expressed gratitude to Hungary for its support for Schengen and noted Bulgaria's efforts to guard the external border of the European Union. He focused on cooperation with Turkey on the topic, pointing out the significant decrease in migration pressure reported.

The talks also covered topics in the field of energy and regional security, as well as the challenges facing the countries of Central and Eastern Europe and the continent as a whole. The strategic importance of the European integration of the Western Balkans was emphasized. The war in Ukraine was also among the topics discussed. Rosen Zhelyazkov highlighted the importance of hosting a meeting between Trump and Putin, emphasizing the need for a peaceful settlement of the conflict. "For us, it is most important that the war stops as quickly as possible on the basis of lasting and sustainable solutions," the Prime Minister said.

President Tamás Sulyok, for his part, welcomed bilateral cooperation. He highlighted the importance of membership in the Eurozone and expressed support for joining the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. Sulyok focused on the economic development of the countries of Central and Eastern Europe. Regarding the war in Ukraine, he pointed out that its termination is in the common interest.

Earlier in the day, the Hungarian president also met with the head of state Rumen Radev, at whose invitation he is visiting Bulgaria. "The relations between Bulgaria and Hungary are an example of exemplary partnership and constructive dialogue at all levels," Radev said.
