A Yellow Code warning for low temperatures has been issued for today in 14 regions of the country, the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH) announced on its website.
The warning for cold weather and negative temperatures is in effect for the regions of Varna, Veliko Tarnovo, Vidin, Vratsa, Gabrovo, Dobrich, Lovech, Montana, Pleven, Razgrad, Ruse, Silistra, Targovishte and Shumen. For the Dobrich region, the warning also includes strong northerly winds in the extreme eastern areas.
Very low temperatures are expected, with minimums in these regions ranging from minus 14 to minus 9 degrees, and maximum temperatures will also be negative. The Yellow Code warns of possible health problems for sensitive and sick people, the elderly, children, and homeless people who are outdoors.
According to the NIMH's weather forecast, it will be mostly sunny over the country today, but the morning will be frosty. Significant cloud cover will be present before noon over Southwestern Bulgaria, but in the afternoon it will also decrease to mostly sunny weather. A moderate northeasterly wind will blow, and a strong northerly wind in Eastern Bulgaria, bringing with it cold air. Maximum temperatures will be from minus 3° in Ludogorie and along the eastern Danube, to around 4° in the extreme southwestern regions of the country. In Sofia, the minimum temperature will be around minus 2°, and the maximum will be around 3°.
