According to data from the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), the tremor was recorded at 09:00 local time, and its epicenter was located in the area of the town of Battalgazi in the eastern part of the country. The earthquake was recorded at a depth of about 7.3 kilometers, which explains why it was clearly felt by the population in a wider radius.

At the moment, Turkish authorities report that there is no information about casualties or serious material damage. Nevertheless, local media describe strong shaking in residential neighborhoods, during which many people left their homes and went out onto the streets for fear of aftershocks. In a number of buildings, objects and plaster fell, and in some shops, goods tumbled from the shelves.

Seismologists define the earthquake as "perceptible" to people and remind that the provinces in eastern Turkey traditionally fall into a highly active seismic zone. The authorities are monitoring the situation for possible aftershocks, and so far there is no data on serious infrastructure failures. According to experts, such tremors are frequent for the region and serve as a reminder of the need for strict adherence to building codes and the population's readiness to respond to disasters.

Turkey is located on several active fault lines and records weaker tremors almost daily, but more powerful earthquakes always cause alarm due to the memory of the destructive events of recent years. Local authorities are urging residents to remain calm, to follow official information, and not to use rumors on social networks as a source of news. Special teams are carrying out inspections of older and vulnerable buildings in the Battalgazi area and surrounding settlements.
