Enhanced fiscal control at the borders
Starting today at 8:00 AM, the National Revenue Agency (NRA) and the Border Police have launched large-scale joint inspections of vehicles crossing Bulgaria's internal borders with Romania and Greece.
The operation is aimed at preventing VAT abuse and strengthening fiscal control over goods that are frequently subject to fraud.
Which goods are under surveillance?
The control covers vehicles transporting goods with "high fiscal risk." The list includes widely consumed products, such as:
- Meat and dairy products
- Fruits and vegetables
- Fuels
- Nuts and coffee
Mandatory electronic declaration
Regardless of whether the goods are coming from an EU member state or a third country, carriers are required to declare them in advance in the NRA's electronic systems. The data is received in real-time, which allows inspectors to immediately check whether the cargo matches the submitted information.
The inspections will be carried out based on risk analysis, with the goal of curbing unfair competition and tax evasion in sectors with the highest risk of tax fraud.
