Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev has announced increased security measures in the country against the backdrop of tensions in the Middle East and a diplomatic note from the Iranian embassy.

Enhanced security measures in Bulgaria

In connection with escalating dangers and the changing global environment, the Ministry of Internal Affairs is undertaking systematic changes to security protocols. Minister of Internal Affairs Ivan Demerdzhiev stated that the goal is to maximally secure critical infrastructure, including airports and train stations.

We are constantly improving our organization and technical provision, Minister Demerdzhiev told journalists.

This move comes against the backdrop of a diplomatic note received from the Embassy of Iran in Sofia. The reason for Tehran's reaction is:

Parliamentary debate

The Defense Committee has already given its support to a draft resolution allowing the presence of American aviation and military personnel on Bulgarian territory. A final vote in the plenary hall on the decision, submitted by the Council of Ministers on July 20, is forthcoming.
