Borisov demands full transparency regarding "Bezmer" airbase
GERB leader Boyko Borisov has called on Vice President Iliana Iotova to urgently convene the Consultative Council on National Security (CCNS). The reason is the government's proposal to station American tanker aircraft at the "Bezmer" airbase.
"The positions should be heard there, the diplomatic notes should be read, and everything that is currently hidden from the public regarding risks and logistics should be stated, and only then should a vote be taken," Borisov stated.
Arguments and criticisms
- Borisov emphasized the need for transparency before the public regarding logistics and risks.
- He recalled President Rumen Radev's critical position from a few months ago regarding the presence of foreign aircraft in Bulgaria.
- The GERB leader presented the first note from the American side to the deputies, stating that it would also be provided to the media in order to put an end to the uncertainties.
The decision to deploy the military equipment is sparking a serious debate, with GERB insisting on an institutional approach through the CCNS before voting on any commitments in parliament.
