The trial began at the Varna Regional Court, where the measure of restraint for the detained mayor of the city, Blagomir Kotsev, is being considered.
Citizens raised posters in support of Kotsev in front of the court building.
Days ago, when the detained Kotsev was being transferred from Sofia to Varna, lawyer Nikolai Vladimirov pointed out that the most adequate measure of restraint for the mayor would be the lightest – a “signature bond”.
The mayor of Varna was arrested on July 8. On November 13, the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office filed an indictment in the Sofia City Court. Along with Kotsev, four other defendants were also brought to trial for a total of 12 crimes. On November 19, the Supreme Court of Cassation decided that the case should be heard at the Varna Regional Court, and not by the Sofia City Court.
