Two Moldovan citizens have been detained in Burgas after the police uncovered a scheme for illegal migrant trafficking. The investigation began after a check at the "Digata" checkpoint, where a minibus carrying illegal immigrants was found. According to information from the police, one of those detained was driving the minibus, while the other was acting as a pilot car, ensuring the safety of the transport.
Tension is palpable at the scene while the law enforcement officers are conducting their checks.
On October 16th, around 10:00 PM, uniformed officers stopped a car with French registration for a check. Behind the wheel was a 32-year-old Moldovan citizen. His compatriot, aged 28, was also in the car.
The alcohol and drug test performed on the driver showed positive results for amphetamine. The man was detained for 24 hours.
While the police officers were conducting the check, they noticed a cargo minibus with French registration and hazard lights on, stopped about 100 meters in the direction of the village of Tvarditsa. There was no one in the driver's cab. Upon inspection of the cargo compartment, the police discovered 11 migrants from Morocco, aged between 25 and 37.
With the help of a police dog, it was established that the driver of the minibus was the 28-year-old companion of the previously detained driver. Investigators assume that the first driver acted as a pilot car, warning of active police checks. Upon noticing a checkpoint, he abandoned the minibus with the migrants and transferred to his compatriot's car, likely in order to avoid a check.
Officers from the First Police Department – Burgas are present at the scene, where an investigation has been launched.
