Attempted arms smuggling at the "Kapitan Andreevo" Border Checkpoint
Border police officers prevented a serious attempt at firearms trafficking at the "Kapitan Andreevo" Border Checkpoint. During an inspection of a bus with Turkish registration, traveling from Turkey to Poland, two citizens of Georgia were detained.
In an attempt to avoid passport control, the two men threw two leather backpacks into a trash can, in which 20 combat pistols were later discovered.
Consequences of the inspection
- 20 combat weapons were seized.
- An empty, large-sized secret compartment was discovered in the bus.
- The vehicle was temporarily suspended from traffic with its registration plates removed.
Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated in the case under the supervision of the District Prosecutor's Office – Haskovo. The two foreign nationals have been charged with arms smuggling.
