Bold fraud in the Burgas region: Young men swindled thousands of euros from pensioners
Two men, aged 23 and 25, have been detained by the police in Burgas for committing a series of telephone scams. The total amount the perpetrators managed to extract from their victims amounts to 7,250 euros.
The scheme is well-known, but despite numerous warnings, elderly people continue to trust telephone scammers.
Details of the crimes
- The case in the village of Poroy: At the beginning of the month, a 78-year-old woman was misled into believing that a relative needed money for an emergency surgery. She handed over the sum of 4,400 euros.
- The case in the village of Troyanovo: The investigation established the involvement of the same individuals in a fraud from the month of July. At that time, a 79-year-old man handed over 2,850 euros under similar circumstances.
The police specified that the two detainees have criminal records and previous convictions. They have already made full confessions to law enforcement authorities.
Investigators remind citizens to be extremely cautious and not to hand over money to strangers, regardless of the story they are told over the phone.
