President Iliana Iotova vetoed the amendments to the Electoral Code, which restrict the number of polling stations outside the European Union. According to her, these changes violate the constitutional principles of universality of the right to vote and equality.

Iotova points out that the changes create barriers to the exercise of the right to vote of Bulgarian voters outside the EU, making it difficult or preventing them from voting. She emphasizes that the Constitution does not provide for unequal treatment of Bulgarian citizens living abroad.

The President warns that the changes could shake public trust in the electoral process and contradict the aspiration to increase voter turnout.
