High water levels in the country's dams

As of June 9, 2026, the complex and significant dams in Bulgaria report an impressive volume of 5,339.5 million cubic meters, which accounts for 81.69% of their capacity. A total of 33 out of the 52 strategic dams are over 80% full.

Dams such as "Kamchia", "Yovkovtsi", "Asenovets", and "Pchelina" are 100% full, with some of them already overflowing, including the "Pancharevo" dam.

Security measures

Due to the high levels, the Ministry of Environment and Waters (MOEW) has signaled dam operators to take timely actions to release volumes. The goal is to ensure capacity to absorb flood waves and prevent flooding.

Weather forecast and hydrological situation

Local authorities are urged to strictly follow the Flood Risk Management Plans (2022-2027) and to react in case of danger from extreme weather events.
