Bulgaria invests 3.2 billion euros in defense capabilities
The European financial mechanism SAFE is becoming a major driver for the modernization of the Bulgarian army. During the opening of the 17th International Exhibition "Hemus 2026", Minister of Defense Dimitar Stoyanov announced the finalization of an investment agreement amounting to 3.2 billion euros.
"This will enable the accelerated acquisition of defense capabilities and the development of the national defense industry through joint projects and joint procurements," emphasized Stoyanov.
Technological focus and "Hemus 2026"
The "Hemus 2026" exhibition reinforces its role as a key forum for innovation. This year, the focus is on:
- Cybersecurity and data protection
- Autonomous systems and unmanned technologies
- Electronic warfare
- Intelligent management systems
Minister of Innovation Ivan Vasilev added that Bulgaria's technological sovereignty requires close cooperation between the army, industry, and the innovation sector. The growth of exhibitors by nearly 20% compared to previous editions is a clear indicator of the strategic importance of the Bulgarian defense sector within the EU and NATO.
