Air Force Readiness for Fighting Forest Fires
The Bulgarian Air Force is in full readiness to carry out aerial firefighting missions. This was confirmed by Minister of Defense Dimitar Stoyanov during his visit to the Krumovo Air Base.
"We have the necessary equipment and crews to respond when needed," the minister stated.
Minister Stoyanov explained the technical capabilities the country possesses:
- Four "Cougar" helicopters;
- Two Mi-17 helicopters;
- One "Spartan" aircraft, which will join operations this year.
Current Defense Issues
During the briefing, other important topics were also addressed:
- NATO Mission: The last group of American aircraft has left the capital's airport, officially concluding their mission in Bulgaria.
- Financial Stability: The minister categorically denied the possibility of salary cuts at the Ministry of Defense. He assured that the budget for remuneration has been increased and there will be no layoffs in 2026 and 2027.
