Thirty years ago on this date, thermometers in the city reached nearly 24 degrees, without a drop of rain. In 2016 the same day was wet and cool, with a high of 13 degrees and almost 10 mm of rain, just enough to water the gardens well. The coldest 17 October in the archive is from 2006, when the morning was 6 degrees and the day did not go above 12.

A Dry Day for Gardens and Lawns
Yesterday there was only very light rain, and today no rain is expected. Anyone with a yard or flowers on the balcony can water them best around noon, when humidity drops and the leaves dry out by evening. In the morning, water stays on the leaves for a long time in the damp air and fungal diseases take hold more easily.
The gusts of wind will bring down more leaves from the plane trees and lindens along the streets, in the Sea Garden and in neighborhood parks. On a dry day it is easy to gather them from the yard and the grass before the next rain glues them into a wet crust under which the grass rots.
For lawns, October is the time for the last mowing, with the blade set higher so the grass enters winter stronger. Frost is still far away, so the day is good for planting tulip and hyacinth bulbs and for transplanting roses and shrubs. A Jacket for the Morning, Watch Out for Wet Leaves on the Road
In the morning a jacket or fleece is needed, and in the afternoon a thick sweater is enough. For running and cycling, the most comfortable time is between 12 and 16 o'clock, when it is warmest and driest. A walk around Lake Atanasovsko is a good choice for Saturday: in October migratory birds pass through there, and without rain the paths are dry.
Drivers should be careful in the morning, especially on streets with many trees. Wet leaves on the roadway and in the bends are slippery and the braking distance becomes longer, so it is better to drive slower until noon, when the asphalt dries.
On Sunday it stays cloudy and dry, from 10 to 18 degrees, with a west wind of about 13 km/h.
