The Elements Return: Rain, Thunderstorms, and Hail over Bulgaria
The unstable summer weather is back in full force, threatening a large part of the country with intense rainfall and powerful storms. After a period of high temperatures, a significant worsening of the meteorological situation is expected today, which will affect both the lowlands and the mountainous areas.
According to the weather forecast, cumulonimbus cloudiness will develop over most of the country's territory. This type of cloud is a harbinger of powerful but short-lived storms that will move from west to east. Temporarily intense rain, accompanied by thunderstorms, is expected in many places. Experts warn that all conditions are also in place for the formation of local hail, which can cause damage to agricultural crops and property.
The temperature will remain high despite the expected rainfall. The maximum values will vary significantly in different regions. In Western Bulgaria, thermometers will show around 28°, while in some areas like the Upper Thracian Plain and Ludogorie, the mercury will reach up to 37°. In the capital, Sofia, the temperature is expected to stay around 29°, which will make the situation even more sultry before the storm arrives.
While the interior of the country is preparing for the rainy elements, the weather along the Black Sea coast will be relatively more favorable. The morning will start with sunny weather, ideal for the beach and sea entertainment. In the afternoon, however, the cloudiness will increase, and short-lived showers and thunderstorms are expected along the northern coast in the evening.
The pleasant summer temperatures along the coast will remain, with daytime values between 27° and 30°. The sea water temperature remains extremely suitable for swimming, maintaining around 26° - 27°. The sea waves will be moderate, between 2 and 3 Bft, which requires increased attention from swimmers.
Strong Winds and Storms in the Mountains
The mountains will also feel the force of the changing weather. Today, the cloudiness there will be significant, with intense, albeit short-lived, rainfall and thunderstorms expected in many places. Experts warn tourists and climbers that conditions for hail are also present. The most impressive and dangerous atmospheric phenomena are expected in the Central Balkan region.
The situation in the mountains will be further complicated by a strong wind. A temporarily strong northwesterly wind will blow, which can create serious challenges for everyone who has headed to the high mountain regions.
